Even though our winter has been mild, I think we are all looking forward to spring! It will be wonderful to see the mud dry up and the landscape turn green, and we can enjoy spending time in our lawns and landscapes again!
It is hard to believe that, as of mid-February, Pittsburgh has had normal snowfall! With the above normal temperatures, the snow didn’t stick around very long. This was the 11th month in a row of above normal temperatures. In the 30 years that I have been in business, I do not remember a winter that didn’t have at least a couple of weeks of steady cold weather. I can remember winters with less snow but we still had periods of cold, with temperatures hovering around freezing for several weeks.
Many experts think that the pest and insect population may be higher this season because we didn’t have a hard freeze over the winter. Another extreme occurred last summer. If you will remember, we had a six week period of hot, dry weather, with 18 days of above 90 degree temperatures. These extreme conditions may have damaged your lawn or landscape. If you have concerns, call us and we can do an assessment, offering recommendations to rectify the situation. We can only hope that Mother Nature blesses us with a normal growing season this year
